Feel the Burn

New toys often come with instructions for their use or a quick start setup guide.  You may want to follow those instructions very carefully when they involve hazardous chemicals.  The fire chief Tom Heller who we would imagine is certified in hazardous material awareness, filled a disinfecting fog machine with the wrong ratio of hazardous chemicals.  The fire chief fired up the machine and the village public safety building was filled with noxious fumes.  Firefighters and police officers who were in the building reported a burning sensation in their eyes and respiratory issues most likely caused by the gallon of ammonia Heller dumped into the machine.

We would bet that the instructions did not call for an entire gallon of ammonia.  This method of disinfecting fire apparatus is known to cause serious and preventable health effects.  It is recommended that if an illness or injury due to exposure to ammonia is suspected, those involved should be immediately referred to a physician.  Instead several fire department members were sent home for the day following the building fumigation.

If you send everyone home, who responds in the event of a fire?

Larry Powell’s picks are the gifts that just keep giving.

Hopefully everyone who worked that day (and the days after while it lingered) filled out an exposure form just incase an illness occurs down the road (like 9/11 responders). If not documented, it never happened.

This does not surprise me.. He is far from the sharpest tool out there. He is def not the person I would want to come help me in an emergency, let alone run the village as fire chief, pretty scary.

Sunday 5/17, Des Plaines River was rising ALL Day. After the flooding in 2013, some residents HAVE to monitor the rivers gage height since the town is unreliable. Is Heller's chemical error the true reason that Forest View FD told residents that if anyone in town floods and you call 911 for help, the fire department WILL NOT RESPOND, OR is it because the FD was too involved with playing cards to respond to actual emergencies? FD went door to door to relay the message they would not help if you call 911.

Forest View should reach out to Lyons and Brookfield, to get a refresher course on putting the needs of the residents first. I'm sure they've seen the news coverage of Lyons flooding from 5/17/20.

The Forest View Village HAS a responsibility to it's residents to provide updates regarding the Des Plaines River when it's getting close to breaching the levee's again. Some residents DID get water. Us specifically, happened at 7:30pm 5/17, CODE RED ALERT was sent out at 7:49pm on 5/17. A LITTLE TOO LATE FOREST VIEW! Why wasn't the river height monitored throughout the day?

Someone needs to come in and replace ALL Village employees, trustees included, Police Chief and Fire Chief too.

Would really love to see any news outlet (Channel 2,5,7 or 9) to investigate everyone involved with this town.

*****Job qualifications should be based on education, work experience, and skills. NOT WHO YOU KNOW.*****

It's apparent people running this town DO NOT POSSESS the correct qualifications and are in their position only based on who they know. Very sad to see. This town USED to be nice to live in, but not so much these last several years.

Larry doesn't care about anything but overnight parking violators.

First of all, this is incorrect. As someone with first hand knowledge of the events on Sunday the 17th, you are way off base. All due respect, but the fire department absolutely went door to door and informed residents that they weren't sure how bad the water was going to get, but to make sure to get anything that was valuable out of the basements. Residents were informed that if they needed anything, not to hesitate to call 911. In fact, multiple houses that had elderly residents living alone, were revisited to make sure they were doing ok. As far as what was said by dispatch, I can't tell you that. And card games? Come on. That's just insulting. It's the FIREFIGHTERS who are keeping that department going because God knows it's not Heller.

Larry may not care about much, but what he SHOULD care about is his stooge of a fire chief shows up on the scene of incidents wearing Mickey Mouse t-shirts or shirts that say, "Quack Attack" written across the chest. Not a department shirt. Not a fire coat. Nothing screams professional fire chief worthy of an $80k+ salary like a duck dynasty shirt or One with a child's cartoon character on it.

I'm glad I'm being put out to pasture. My seat springs couldn't take it anymore, plus someone left a "skidmark" on the driver's seat.
